This week, I was passed on this jewel by Professor Michael Hanson. I first became familiar with David Carson from the movie Helvetica. After studying this book, I started to understand more of his editorial layout style. I really like the crude and distressed compositions he uses when working with type. His use of texture, shapes and letterforms (sometimes hard to read) turn his work into pieces of art. I'm thinking of ways I can incorporate some of his ideas into some of my work...but in NEW ways. I'm particularly interested in the way he creates texture while weaving in and out of the grid.
